Lighting the Soil, 2024
Project Description
Understanding 2D data like this soil profile can be challenging, especially for the public and those unfamiliar with soil science. However, learning about soil properties is essential for conserving topsoil, the vital layer that supports all plant growth. This graph illustrates various soil characteristics, such as sand, silt, and clay content, as well as carbon and pH levels, across different depths.
Since plants rely on the nutrients and structure of topsoil, it’s crucial to understand what properties soil needs to sustain healthy growth. By studying these soil characteristics, we gain insight into what is required to maintain fertile and resilient soil, which is the foundation for our food, forests, and natural ecosystems. This project aims to make soil data more accessible and meaningful, helping everyone appreciate the role of soil in sustaining life.
